Be wined, dined and entertained at the 2008 Festival Launch event, which will be a three-course dinner (with wine) made entirely from food bought in York. This is in keeping with this year's theme of 'better food, less waste' and thinking about food miles and local produce.

York's own Peter Sidwell, now of the Good Taste Cafe in Keswick, is an up and coming name in foodie circles and tonight he will be demonstrating by cooking for you!

His recent book 'Simply Good Taste' got rave reviews and he was recently in the news cooking a three course meal on the summit of Skiddaw as part of the Keswick Mountain Festival.

Wanting to 'give something back to York', Peter is coming home to work with the Festival for a few days and is starting by cooking the York Launch Dinner in our beautiful 15th Century Guildhall.

York Ham and Eggs
a pressed ham hock Terrrine served with a rich hollandaise, a brown sauce(HP) vinaigrette
 
Pickering Trout
a parcel filled with pickled fennel, courgette, potato and a fillet of Pickering Trout baked in its own juices
 
Yorkshire Curd Tart
quite simply Yorkshire on a plate! Served with a Yorkshire curd and raspberry ice cream
